White Mountain. Elevation 14,252. 3rd highest peak in CA. One of two CA 14ers not in the Sierra Range. So easy to walk up, I’ve heard it’s been unicycled! The crux was the drive to the trailhead, evidenced by the flat tire we got! (Thanks to this nice guy, Shaun, who helped Todd put on the spare!) The Inyo White Mountains are beautiful in a different way than the mountains I’m used to - more desolate and dry, being in the rain shadow of the Sierras. And home to some of the oldest trees in the world, the bristlecone pines. 16 miles and about 3k vert later, that’s a wrap on the third and final phase of our East side adventure!

20 more miles of backpacking, a family of overly friendly marmots, countless wildflowers, an unsuccessful summit attempt followed by a high elevation skinny dip to remind ourselves that what’s important is having fun and being safe, and so many beautiful lakes! Phase 2 of our eastern Sierra adventure is a wrap!

Charlotte Dome. Awkward 5.8 seemed “easy” on paper. In reality, this 14 pitch beast made me cry, re-evaluate all my life decisions, and fantasize about getting into mountain biking. I’m so grateful and even more impressed by @toddlesnbits who led *every single pitch* and kept his cool when I lost mine.

After 30+ miles, 9.5k vert, 3 high points, lots of tears, even more laughs, and just enough backpacking meals, phase 1 of our summer east side adventure is a wrap! Rest day tomorrow then onwards to more mountain adventures the rest of the week! Life is good. Onion valley trailhead -> Kearsarge Pass -> Mount Bago -> Charlotte Dome (this one will get its own post later!) -> Mount Gould -> Bishop -> a full rack of ribs and a huge steak!
